Job Opportunity: Curriculum Developer

STATUS: Full-time Term March 31, 2021

This position will develop a culturally informed, NWT- specific curriculum for Healthy Family Program staff working with families in communities across the NWT. Experience living in community(s) outside of Yellowknife required.

The Healthy Family Renewal Project is a two-year project to review and renew the GNWT Healthy Family Program. The Healthy Family Program is delivered by the Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) Department of Health and Social Services.

The goals of the renewal project are: 1) Better understand the experiences of parents in the NWT; 2) Ground a renewed program in features unique to NWT communities and people.

In year 1 (2018-2019), the project team developed a needs assessment and community engagement process to learn about the experiences of parents and the unique challenges and strengths in 9 NWT communities. In year 2 (2019-2020), the project will build on this work to develop a comprehensive program design and evaluation structure for the renewed program and plan for its implementation. This work includes curriculum design.

Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the Curriculum Developer will draw on the Year One research and information to develop a culturally informed, NWT-specific curriculum for Healthy Family Program staff working with families in communities across the NWT. The curriculum focus will be drawing on Indigenous and community strengths for developing parenting skills, knowledge, and confidence for parents, caregivers, and/or family members of young children. The curriculum should cover key messages and best information available for NWT caregivers and allow for the flexible inclusion of cultural knowledge and community resources at the community or regional level.

All interested applicants are encouraged to apply. Secondments from other governments or industry are welcome; as are flexible working arrangements. This position can be located in NWT communities outside of Yellowknife.
