There is a growing number of Indigenous program delivery staff and managers in the NWT who are developing Indigenous evaluation skills.
The original cohort began with a group of six program delivery professionals attending the Indigenous Peoples’ Conference on Evaluation in New Zealand in February 2019. In return for this sponsorship, all participants have committed to working with Hotıì ts’eeda to develop their Indigenous evaluation skills as they put them to use in their organizations. Training in Indigenous evaluation is part of Hotıì ts’eeda's mandate to support health research and training that responds to the needs of patients, communities and governments.
Since then, evaluation training has been supported, including attendance at a June 2019 Canadian Evaluation Society basic skills workshop, and in January 2020, 22 participants attended a three-day Indigenous Evaluation skills workshop in Fort Simpson, NWT. Participants included representatives from Indigenous governments, non-profit organizations, and the territorial government. The workshop was facilitated by Indigenous evaluator Larry Bremner (Proactive Information Services Inc.). The workshop aimed to provide essential skills in Indigenous and western evaluation methods.
In fall 2023, Hotıì ts’eeda hosted a two-day workshop about Indigenous Evaluation in Yellowknife, led by Larry Bremner.
