Sallie Ross is a member of the of the Aklavik Indian Band and is a participant of the Nihtat Gwich’in Council who was born and raised in Inuvik, NT.
Prior to her work with the Gwich’in Tribal Council, Sallie worked for the GNWT in many capacities over a 24-year career. She began her public service as a General Duty Nurse and over her 13 years at the Inuvik Regional Hospital she held several nursing positions in various departments. She then transferred to the Department of Education, Culture and Employment where she worked as an Early Childhood Consultant before transitioning to the position of Regional Manager, Income Support Programs. She returned to the Department of Heath and Social Services as the Manager, Non-Insured Health Benefits. She held this position until her retirement from the GNWT in 2024.
As Director, Health & Wellness, Sallie is responsible for guiding the development of a set of health and wellness programs and services based on Gwich’in values that will address the varied needs of Gwich’in Participants both within the GSA and outside of the GSA.
Sallie holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Alberta.
