Dene Nahjo’s Urban Hide Tanning Camps supports Indigenous peoples’ to engage in their cultures; learn skills; foster reconciliation and awareness; and, reclaim traditional spaces. In 2018, approximately 2,000 people visited the camp during ten days, including 400 elementary and high school students. They were given tours, watched demonstrations and did some hide tanning themselves. Elders and instructors from the Akaitcho, Tłı̨chǫ, Gwich’in and Dehcho regions led activities and offered guidance.
