Hotıì ts’eeda is proud to be an ongoing supporter of the Inuvik Cancer Support Group, and provide funding for their Book of Hope project.
The Inuvik Cancer Support Group was started in October 2018. The group is open to people living with cancer, cancer survivors, and their friends, families, and caregivers. They are a grassroots community initiative, and one of the few cancer support groups in the territory. The group engages in conversations, shares stories, and holds workshops and activities in the community.
Since 2020, the group has been working on the Book of Hope project. The goal of this project is to collect and publish stories of cancer survivors and caregivers in the Northwest Territories.
The book is intended to address the fear and stigma surrounding cancer, counter shame and social isolation, and encourage people to access care, services, and support.
The Inuvik Cancer Support group team is working with an editor and hope to published the book in 2024.
